In town for a quick business trip and Johnny's is conveniently in the hotel. I had the Petite Filet; I usually get medium rare, but went with rare, because... Well, it is the Midwest after all. DELICIOUS. Side of asparagus was nicely prepared. The house salad was just ok. The wine list is good and reasonably priced; the service was friendly and efficient. The one issue was that the place has really dark finishes and dim lighting contrasted with the brightly lit bar and televisions behind. Gave me a headache, and I spend plenty of time in bars/clubs. I would return if I was in town, and sit in one of the booths.

I really want to like this place as there aren't too many fine dining experiences in the area. Normally, I give places two tries. If I'm disappointed both times, I won't return. I tried Johnny's three times now and regret breaking my routine. The food isn't bad by any means; it's just not that great. My last visit, my girlfriend and I ordered the calamari and lobster bisque for starters. Calamari was breaded and nicely fried- not greasy- and the aioli was pretty good. The bisque though was a glorified tomato soup. Lobster was absent as well as the flavor. I ordered the Veal Sinatra. It was overcooked, dry, and tough... All things veal shouldn't be. The dish itself had too many things going on... Too many powerful flavors that complicated and overpowered the veal. For the most part, I leave negative service out of my reviews but ours really annoyed me. It may seem like a small thing to most but for me, I expected a little more effort given the establishment. She dropped my side salad off and separately placed the blue cheese dressing on the table. She said, "sorry about the mess. The cup (the vessel the dressing came in) was overfilled." Why don't you clean it up then??? If you know it's gonna leave a goopy mess on the table, just wipe the side of the cup off. If the expediter doesn't do it, have the common sense to do it yourself. Wtf. I think the best part about the third and last time I frequent there was the bread. Stuff me with carbs and keep your shitty meals in the kitchen.

I never liked to order steak when going out to eat because I always felt I did a better job of it at home, until I went to Johnnys. They have excellent aged steaks that are really worth the money. In 4 visits, we have always had excellent service and friendly staff. I do think the bar service has been a bit slow now and then, but nothing inconvenient. All the desserts and appetizers have been great with the exception of the Tiramisu.. the ladyfingers were somewhat chewy and unappealing. That was my only complaint so far.

First visit food and service was awesome, however my second visit was not to good. I don't think it's worth a third visit

Had a girls night out and did dinner at johnnys. We were all very pleased with the atmosphere, service and food. Ordered chef andys pasta and it was excellent, would order again and again. Only reason it didn't get five stars is because they never stopped by with popovers!

Would most likely rate this place a 3 or 3 1/2 Star but I am giving it little extra just for the Sinatra theme! Love old blue eyes ! This is a very nice upscale restaurant located in a Holliday Inn. Obviously by the name the menu consists primarily Italian foods along with some nice looking steaks. There are salads and seafood options also on the menu. I would consider this place to fit into more of a "fine dinning" establishment so I will rate it accordingly. Tonight I ordered the Veal Parmesan and Baked Potato Soup. The soup was good, not great, and it just seemed be lacking something from making it stand out. Looking at pictures on Yelp, the next time I think I would try the French Onion instead. My veal was also good but it wasn't good enough for me to consider ordering it again either. A major let down tonight was the staff. Not that my waitress was unfriendly, in fact she was very likable. The unfortunate thing was her training. I'm going to guess she's new, but when I had questions about the menu she was confused. There was two types of veal on the menu and she was not sure what the difference was, except one was more "extravagant" than the other! I have to admit I did get a kick out of that answer! Here are some helpful warnings... Bring your glasses, or someone with good eyes. It's very dark in the restaurant and the writing on menu is very small. If you are a traveler staying at the hotel do not be fooled by the room service menu. The menu in your room has some inexpensive choices that are not available in the restaurant. I'm not positive, but I'm assuming that the menu is ala cart. My meal was just two average sized pieces on veal and that's it. Definitely good enough to give it another chance!

I had hoped for so much better. Medium sized Midwestern towns have lots of places to eat, but few really great places. This is not a great place. Johnny's has plenty of mood if you like underlit tables with lots of curtains - pretty much what the name promises. Service is also good. Wine list? Thin (only 3 Italian red wines?), but not terrible. Pricing is OK for the wine, not great but not too overpriced. Plenty of people to see there - generally hoping and kind of the place to be seen. If you like the Italian Steakhouse vibe, this place has it. kind of fun. The food? Meh. Steaks? Meh. Not bad, but certainly not exceptional. Better at Texas roadhouse. Better tasting better prepared. Small portions. Lack of attention to detail on plating. Table of three did not get the sides right. Not worth going back unless someone else insists

Located inside the Holiday Inn. Excellent food and service. The bone-in ribeye was excellent. A little on the pricey side, but worth it. The lighting was a little low making reading the menu somewhat difficult. Also, as I stayed in the hotel for a week, I had their room service a few times. Menu was much smaller, featuring a few cheaper options. Service was quick.

  • Rebecca E.

The wait staff was incredibly rude. They placed me at the end of the table and the waitress didn't have enough room behind me to get around. Instead of going around like the other staff was doing, she kept shoving the back of my chair. I moved as close to the table as I could, but she still knocked me into the table. She was angry at me because I came late. Food is mediocre.

  • Troy S.

I've been here twice already. One night for dinner and another for apps and drinks. The bone in ribeye was very good. I had the vegetable of the day and the garlic mash. Both very good. The wine list is a bit thin with an average if 3 choices per type of wine. Wait staff is attentive. I know it just opened, but the bar service is really SLOW. About 15-20 minutes to get a bourbon old fashioned, and it was not busy on their second night. The other time...we got our apps before the cocktails arrived. The need to step it up or add a bartender to get 5 stars from me. The decor is modern, although the lightening is very low, so difficult for some to even read the menu. I'll be back, it has a good vibe.

    (4)
  • Carl H.

Don't go here for drinks. Pours are skinny and the bt didn't know the difference between bourbon and southern comfort. Steaks are as dry as they are overpriced. C

We went here for our 4 year wedding anniversary and it was great! We went at 5:00pm on a Friday and it wasn't busy, which was nice. Restaurant was clean and nicely decorated: very dark and simple colors/patterns. We both ordered steaks which came with soup or salad. Our steaks were awesome and The salads were really good and fresh! I had a baked potato and he had mashed potatoes; both of which were good. Our meal, with one glass of wine, was $65. So overall we spent $85 and it was definitely worth it. We highly recommend!!

Tried this place for date night. (27&28 years old) Loved it. The decor is beautiful and the Sinatra music in the background sang to me. Absolutely loved the food, waiters, everything!! A must go for foodies. My husband and I both ordered steak and both were phenomenal. I would recommend the drunken steak with potatoes; you wont regret it!! We also had the sausage bread appetizer. Best appetizer I've had...EVER! I did order their creme brulee and would try something different next time, I've had better. We were reluctant to try a restaurant connected to a hotel as we were looking for something "a little more dressy". This restaurant fit the bill. After getting past the hostess stand the ambiance draws you right in and you forget you just walked through a hotel to get there. They are pricey so be prepared to spend. Our Bill was $95 but with 2 entrees, app, 2 cosmos and 1 dessert plus tip. 5 stars

My colleague and I came here twice. We did have an issue finding this place. It is located in the Holiday Inn, which is nowhere to be found on a GPS! They said they were going to be put on a map soon. We were also unsure of how good the food would be here, since it was located in a hoilday inn.. We got the lump crab cakes to start. It was delicious! I got the parmesan crusted filet mignon with a side of mashed potatoes. It was super amazing. The house salad was alright, it was big! We came back a second time because we enjoyed our first time so much! I got basically the same thing- parmesan crusted filet mignon but it had a different name on the menu. And this time I got a bleu cheese salad which came with a huge deep fried ball of bleu cheese, Yum!!! But anyway, the parmesan crusted steak = AMAZING. For dessert, we had the banana cheesecake with rum/caramel drizzle. It was delicious as well. This place needs to move its butt to the chicagoland area!

Very over priced. Steak should NOT come doused in ANY sauce. Very small salad , very stingy with the bread. My Margarita was served to me in a beer glass. I can do that at home. Have eaten at Johnny's twice, there will not be a third time. The atmosphere is beautiful but the food is terrible.

  • Adel Z.

Good ambience but a little dark. Depending on what you like this could be a plus or a minus. Friendly service. Good food but portions small. On pricey side.

  • David V.

Sadly over rated by the locals. We have been there twice and although the food is good (not sure you will disappointed) the prices and decor far exceed the value of the meal for what you spend. Beer selection for this expected level of dinning is awful. Pretty bad when you ask what's on tap and the 3 they list are only one craft beer (nothing dark) and one includes Bud Light. Everything is an up charge (was hesitant to ask for a glass of water - they didn't even ask).

Excellent menu with a wide variety of tasty dishes. Filet is in my top 1%. Also have enjoyed Italian dishes, seafood, and a good array of appetizers. Bar is also a great place ... Slammed almost every night.

My wife and I go out to eat at least once per week all over Eau Claire. When I heard that Johnny's Italian steakhouse was opening, I decided we needed to check it out. I researched it on the Internet, and after discovering it was owned by the same company that owns the machine shed, we decided to go visit. We ordered a bone in ribeye medium rare, and Chef Andy's Cavatappi . Both dishes exceeded my expectations. The pasta was excellent-could be considered gourmet. The steak was as good as any I've had in Eau Claire. If you were expecting Mannys steakhouse, or Morton's, this is not it, but it is a very good steak. (And costs considerably less too). We will definitely be back to sample other menu items.

Tried Johnny's for the first time last night, 12/20/2013. Was a little disappointed, Bar service was very slow, seemed to have plenty of Bar Tenders but they were busy talking to each other! Salad was good, however the main course, stuffed shrimp with wild rice was served Luke warm at best.

This place is delicious!!! The atmosphere is really cool too. I would recommend going here when you have a lot of time to spare since it takes Foreverrrr. We were seated and it took 20 mins for a waitress to come over and take our drink order. It was well worth it though!

I am giving this place for stars for service and three stars for its food. I had chicken piccata. It was pretty good. The goat cheese salad was incredible. Nice bar area. I like piccata to be made to order in medallions. This was a whole breast that was prepared pretty well but nothing too memorable. To be fair everyone else at the table enjoyed their dinner. The service was flawless.

Perhaps just an off night but two very thin rib eyes both overdone with the saltiest soup and mashed potatoes and so-so desserts for $80 left us both dry mouthed and feeling less than satisfied.

Went on opening night for our anniversary. Had fair service but excellent food--well worth the prices. Dessert was a plus and we shared it because dinner was so filling. Look forward to going back at lunch to try more at a lower price.

Good ambience but a little dark. Depending on what you like this could be a plus or a minus. Friendly service. Good food but portions small. On pricey side.
